Happy New Year!

Happy New Year (a couple days late)! It's been such an exciting past couple of months being able to blog and share my outfits with all of you. It really is a creative outlet for me both in styling my outfits, and writing about them. I try to keep things light around here, but I will say writing helped me get out of a depressive funk. I appreciate all of you for reading and encouraging me. I get so much joy from people telling me that I inspired them to be more creative with their wardrobes, or that they tried new things after reading. I absolutely love that. My goal for the next year is to continue to bring the fun and continue the creativity as I get rounder, and then of course learn to work with the inevitable body changes after the baby is born.

eShakti is a traditional online retailer that focuses on retro-style dresses, skirts, and tops. There’s one thing that makes them different from any other online store that I’ve run into. They let you customize! On most of their items you can add/remove sleeves, change the neckline, and change the length. You can also change the measurements and customize the entire sizing. Customization costs $7.50 per item. Items are made in India and shipped to the US.

I can’t tell you how much I love this company. Not just the customization, although that is wonderful. I always dress modestly and it’s nice to put sleeves on things instead of always having to wear cardigans. What I love most, is how they treat their customers. They are CONSTANTLY giving coupons, sales, deals, and yes, even giftcards just to keep you coming back. They have a great return policy too. If you don’t like what you received, and you want to return for store credit, they will give you the price of the item plus 20% back on a giftcard (the added 20% deal excludes overstock items).  However, you do have to pay return shipping and they don’t refund you for customization. Did I mention all their dresses have POCKETS?! Last awesome thing about this company, they sell plus size too!

Street Moda Haul

Since I'm not feeling well today, I didn't go to church. Besides the obvious downsides to not going to church, it also means no "What I Wore to Church" segment, which makes me sad. Instead, I decided to try to cheer myself up by blogging about my newest pretty shoes.

I posted about the Street Moda coupon code a little over a week ago, and I seriously took advantage of this one. All the shoes I ordered were from Jessica Simpson's collection, and I couldn't be happier.

Jessica Simpson Devin. Normal retail $89, I paid $16. I've been looking for a good black suede pump that's comfortable, and these fit the bill perfectly. I would've ordered Waleo in black since I know how they fit, but they were out of my size. They are a little more round-toed than Waleo, and just as comfortable. These will be a nice staple in my closet. I ordered 1/2 size up.

Jessica Simpson Waleo. Normal retail $89, I paid $18. As I mentioned in my previous post, I love my coral waleos and had been keeping an eye out for other colors. This is the "emerald" color although they are definitely more blue than green as you can see. Also, it just occurred to me these are very similar in color to my JF Ivana I posted about weeks ago. Either way, they are a great, rich color, and I'm sure I'll find an outfit or five to match with them. They'll be perfect for the winter. I ordered 1/2 size up.

Another color of Jessica Simpson Waleo. I paid the same price for them. This is the "nude kid suede". These were quite the surprise. I got this color because I LOVE the detailing on the bottom. Little did I know, the detailing sparkles quite a bit. It's like a disco ball for my feet. I tried to get a better picture but I'm not sure if I succeeded.
You can kind of see the sparkling. It's super fun.

Jessica Simpson Britt. Normally retails for $98, I paid $24. These were clearly more expensive than the other 3 (but still quite the steal). They were worth every penny. Are those not the cutest shoes you've ever seen in your life? I love the retro look of the gingham and the t-strap, and the bows just kick the cute into overdrive. The gingham part is a pretty satiny material, and you guessed it, they are COMFORTABLE. I will never stop saying how great Jessica Simpson shoes are. I went with my true size on these, which seems to be the case for most of JS's open-toed shoes. I can't wait to come up with an outfit to pair these with (yes, usually I pick the shoes first and work an outfit around it).

So there you have it. Four pairs of designer shoes that I paid less than the cost of one pair.

Sale Alert - Street Moda

Quick sale alert. Street Moda is one of my favorite sites to get name brand shoes for cheap. They closed their site down for awhile, but upon reopening, are offering 60% off with the code SAVE60.

Might I suggest these:



Jessica Simpson Waleo, $18 with the code. These shoes retail full price for $90 so this is an absolute steal. I already have them in spiced coral. I may have purchase them in this color, as well as the nude kid suede (and by may have I mean I did). I LOVE my spiced coral ones. They are such a versatile shoe. A very classy silhouette in a wide array of colors.



I went 1/2 size up because I have weird wide, short toes, but if you don't have wide feet your true size should work.

Not sure how to wear them? I like to go with the classic pencil skirt and white blouse to let the shoes do the talking.

Style Me! Formal Wear

I got a request from my sister's friend, Val to help style her dress for Navy ball, and my sister thought it was a great opportunity to add a new segment to the blog. I thought that was a brilliant idea! So, I bring you the first installment of Style Me!

She bought this dress in burgundy:



By the way, this dress is absolutely GORGEOUS!

Val said she was looking for suggestions on handbags and shoes to match. The biggest stipulation was that the shoes couldn't be too tall. I'm not super familiar with shorter heels so it definitely took some digging. In my opinion, for a formal dress, standard pumps aren't exciting enough. I think a good peep toe or open toe is great, and anything with some added detailing like bows or glitter is even better.  *Disclaimer: all prices are based on what is on the linked site presently. My first find I absolutely fell in love with and thought they were perfect!



This is Unlisted Bliss List. They are gorgeous and perfect for a formal event (and only $44). Unfortunately, at 3 1/2 inches they were still too high.

Here's the rest of the options that I came up with. I was surprised that I could find so many cute heels in a shorter height. All are 2 1/2 inches.

We'll start with the most expensive and work down.



This is Luichiny's Best One Yet. They retail for $71. They are cheaper elsewhere but not in the right size. I love the bow and the peep toe. I also think it's a very classy looking heel, and the satin gives it a more formal feel.



This is Circa Joan & David's Zorita. Same concept, bow and peep toe but with leather instead of satin. These retail for $59.99.



Lastly, this is Vaneli's Maela. They are currently selling for $30. I actually love the sling back on this and I definitely love the price. This is definitely my #1 suggestion. The MSRP on these is $100 so these are an absolute steal.

Now onto bags. For a formal like this, I definitely recommend a clutch with either a satin or lace finish. I've picked out a few below.



This is Nina's Laramie and it costs $31.99. It has a nice satin finish and a classy jeweled buckle detailing.



Here's Jessica McClintock's Soft Floral Frame Snap Closure. It currently costs $27.99. I absolutely love the lace detailing and think it would go well with the floral sleeves of the dress.



Lastly is Jessica McClintock's Flap with Stone (clearly the company goes with more descriptive names than cutesy ones). Again satin finish with jeweled detailing. The best part about this on is the price at $17.99.

These are all my suggestions. Hopefully there's something in here that Val likes or at least gives her a better idea of what to look for. I can't wait to see pictures of the final product!
